Sudhir Choudhrie Reflects on the Trajectory of the 'New India'
After winning its independence as a new nation in 1947, the people of India selected Jawaharlal Nehru as its first Prime Minister. Today, mega-successful businessman Sudhir Choudhrie credits the policies of Nehru for building a solid foundation that underpinned a newly minted state.
Choudhrie called Nehru “a great visionary” who knew that education was the key to building a future economy – an economy that could build heavy industries and put hundreds of millions of people to work in good-paying jobs.
Writing in the British branch of the Huffington Post, Choudhrie said the benefits of Nehru’s emphasis on education have created a ripple effect that still makes a difference today. He makes special mention of the strong priority Indian educators placed on engineering. This has resulted in everything from a robust auto industry to a remarkable space program.
In many respects, Choudhrie said his own stellar career in business has mirrored the historic arc of his nation. He was born just two years after independence was achieved. That means he grew up during the tumultuous times of The Partition.
As a young man, Sudhir Choudhrie entered college in the 1960s and earned a degree in economics at the University of Delhi. After graduation, he plunged into ramping up his first self-starter business. It was an import-export operation that traded electronics between the U.K. and India. It quickly became a financial success for the brilliant young man.
Sudhir Choudhrie would go on to dabble in many varieties of business, money matters, investment and finance. Little he touched did not transform into success. That’s why media observers estimate his net worth today to be in excess of $2 billion.
Choudhrie feels more strongly than ever that now in 2023, a “Golden Age” for India is close on the horizon.
