Olugbenga’s Favorite TV show

In his interview with (the very charismatic) Olugbenga Agboola, we explored many topics: his favorite TV show, the best piece of advice he’s ever been given and how he balances parenting with a full-time job. And while it may seem like there are a lot of jobs out there for anthropologists in Nigeria, Olugbenga Agboola actually ended up working in IT. He’s the founder of MyCreditPlanet.com, a company that helps to find low-interest loans

Why he started MyCreditPlanet.com

On a very personal level, I had struggled to find a loan for a long time. I was involved in several businesses that collapsed due to lack of financial support. That experience gave me the insight into the problem and what it takes to solve it. Learning from that, I set out in search of solutions and took it upon myself to create one.

Olugbenga’s favorite TV show

Akpos and Company. It is a local comedy show which pokes fun at Nigerian politicians. In a country where corruption and lack of discipline is the order of the day, it can get quite funny. The actors are very talented and funny people. I listen to their conversations on how they come up with some of the stories in their weekly recordings.

Best advice he’s ever been given:

My father told me never to go into business with friends or family members because most often, you will have to choose business over relationships and that will strain your friendship/family tie further if one party isn’t patient enough to wait until it works out. I’ve had numerous experiences in business ventures where I ended up losing friendships over financial disagreements.

So far, the best part of being an anthropologist is:

I met my wife who I’ve been married to for almost 2 years now. She is beautiful and very intelligent. Her family are wonderful people who I get along very well with. As they say, behind every successful man is a supportive wife and family. Thanks to my profession, I was able to first meet then marry my wife and get along so well with her family. Her father actually went ahead and bought me a laptop as a wedding gift because he’s always watching me using one while visiting her siblings’ houses.
