Kelcy Warren, The Entrepreneur Of The Year

Kelcy Warren is an executive entrepreneur well-known in the oil and fuel industry. Kelcy is currently the CEO and Chairman of Energy Transfer, which processes treats, and transports natural gas liquids, natural gas, crude oil, and refined products. He attended the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), earning a Civil Engineering degree. Warren was born and raised in Texas in a small town called Gladewater.

 Career

Kelcy Warren started working at 12 years old at a gas station; his income was 30 cents per hour. He majorly worked on jobs that were related to the oil industry. Warren repaired oilfield leaks, served as a welder’s assistant, did a lineman job by maintaining telephone lines for meter reading, and performed pipeline building. According to Kelcy, his father encouraged him to work and invest in saving. Warren saved and paid his tuition fees all through the UTA.

Kelcy Warren flunked out of school during his first year due to being exposed to so much freedom that he did not have back in his hometown. An Engineering professor, Dr. Syed Qasim, knew about Warren’s situation and encouraged him to seek a scholarship to participate in a National Science Foundation project. Warren took the professor’s advice, got the scholarship, and won the leading award for his research project on methane gas production.

Warren says that the achievement became his turning point by enhancing his self-confidence and increasing his faith in competing with others in his area of expertise. After graduation, he started as a pipeline design engineer at Lone Star Gas Company. He later worked at Endevco, a small-scale energy development firm. Kelcy and a partner obtained Endevco and changed its name to Cornerstone Natural Gas in 1992. Four years later, they sold it, and Warren later became Energy Transfer’s co-founder.

Kelcy Warren has accomplished numerous achievements throughout his career. However, he believes that although obtained, success can only be achieved partially. Warren advises youths to be honest and sincere with themselves. Kelcy also extends his philanthropic gesture by holding a fundraiser for Cherokee Crossroads, Inc, which financially supports kid’s charities in Texas. He stands as the top donor to Klyde Warren Park. Warren has earned the Ernst and Young’s Entrepreneur Award and the Gas Processors Suppliers Association’s Hanlon Award.
