About Bernard Acoca

Zaxby’s, a fast-casual chain known for its chicken fingers and wings, has announced a major leadership change. Zach McLeroy, the co-founder and longtime CEO of Zaxby’s Chicken, will be stepping down from his role as CEO and transitioning to the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors. Bernard Acoca, the former CEO of El Pollo Loco, has been appointed as the new Zaxby’s CEO.

McLeroy co-founded Zaxby’s in 1990 with his childhood friend Tony Townley. The pair opened the first Zaxby’s restaurant in Statesboro, Georgia, with a simple concept of serving delicious chicken in a casual setting. Over the years, Zaxby’s has grown into a beloved brand with over 900 locations in 17 states.

McLeroy has served as the Zaxby’s CEO since its inception and has played a crucial role in shaping the company’s culture and values. Under his leadership, Zaxby’s has become known for its commitment to quality, customer service, and community involvement. McLeroy’s transition to Chairman of the Board will allow him to remain involved in the company while providing an opportunity for new leadership to take Zaxby’s to the next level.

Bernard Acoca brings a wealth of experience to his new role as CEO of Zaxby’s. Before joining Zaxby’s, Acoca was the CEO of El Pollo Loco, overseeing the turnaround of the struggling fast-food chain. Before that, he held various leadership positions at Starbucks, where he helped to develop and implement the company’s global growth strategy.

Acoca’s experience in leading turnarounds and driving growth make him well-suited to lead Zaxby’s as it continues to expand and evolve. In a statement, McLeroy expressed his confidence in Acoca, saying, “I believe that Bernard’s vision, passion, and experience make him the ideal person to lead Zaxby’s into the future.”

For his part, Acoca expressed excitement about his new role, saying, “I am honored to join the Zaxby’s team and to build upon the incredible foundation that Zach and Tony have established. I look forward to working with the talented team at Zaxby’s to continue to deliver on the brand’s promise of great food and exceptional customer service.” See this page for additional information.
