Alliance Defending Freedom Defends Religious Freedom For All

Formerly known as Alliance Defense Fund, ADF or Alliance Defending Freedom was founded in 1994. A group of leaders within the Christian community came together to create what is said to be the leading legal organization in the world. Their goal is to protect fundamental freedoms, including free speech, parental rights, the sanctity of life, and more. However, they do not just defend Christians. They have defended those from other religions and who have no faith.

Alliance Defending Freedom believes everyone has the right to religious freedom, even if they are not religious or not. They believe everyone has the right to publicly celebrate their religion, or lack of it, just as they would behind closed doors. The Alliance has represented both a florist and a baker who did not want to serve clients who asked for services that were not in line with their religious views. The cases went to the Supreme Court. The Alliance released a statement that artists should not have to worry about government interference in their work and should have the right to turn down clients.

The Alliance Defending Freedom does not stop at defending religious freedom cases. They support students’ right to express their views and hold healthy debates on college campuses. They are ready to fight for the sanctity of life. They work to keep women and children safe while making sure everyone has the opportunity to fight for their lives.

The Alliance went up against the Virginia school board when policies were in place that were discriminatory to students of certain races. A lawsuit was filed against the school board to prevent them from violating students’ civil rights.

The arms of the Alliance reach around the world. They, alongside worldwide partners, work to protect Christians and those of other religions from being persecuted for their beliefs. They have won 30 cases in the European Court of Human Rights. See this article for additional information.
