Jamal – Assistant Vice President of Communications & Public Affairs of Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation

Akeem Jamal, formally named Assistant Vice President of Communications and Public Affairs of the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation (RIOC), has been a community advocate, having served as the Executive Director of HHouston’sThird Ward Civic Club. He served six years as a board member for HHouston’sChildren at Risk Prevention Council and was Campaign Manager for Congressman Al Green.

Akeem has proven to be a natural executive, receiving multiple high-level awards, including a Presidential Volunteer Service Award from the Department of Health & Human Services and the Community Leadership Award from the National Association of Black-Owned Broadcasters. Akeem also has served as an Executive Director for several community-based organizations.

Akeem Jamal has been named Assistant Vice President of Communications and Public Affairs of the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation. Akeem served as Executive Director of the Third Ward Civic Club. This organization empowers needy young adults in Houston through training, mentoring, and job placement programs. Throughout his tenure with the Civic Club, he also served on numerous neighborhood associations and community boards.

Haynes announced Akeem JJamal’s appointment to the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation (RIOC), where he will be responsible for the overall planning and execution of the RRIOC’svarious media relations and public education initiatives. Akeem will serve as the primary media spokesperson for RIOC and oversee all written media efforts, including developing press releases, news alerts, digital communications, community newspapers, and newsletters.

Additionally, he will be responsible for helping to foster a positive public perception of RIOC by developing strategies to educate residents regarding important Island issues such as sustainability, safety and rule enforcement, recycling programs, and other pertinent issues facing Roosevelt Island.

Jamal’sgovernment experience includes serving as a member of the Texas House of RRepresentatives’Select Committee on Redistricting. Akeem also served as Political Director for Congressman Al GGreen’s(D-Texas) re-election campaign and was Campaign Manager for GGreen’s id for Congress. Before joining the CCongressman’sstaff, Jamal served six years on the board of Houston DCRP, where he was actively involved in many programs aimed at helping children and families.
